You can learn a lot about someone after just 18 HOLES OF GOLF.
You can see Darren’s focus and drive on the golf course. These are the same traits that spark his success as a leading real estate professional.
As he stands in the middle of the 18th fairway, Darren Humphrey surveys the scene. A couple blades of grass are pulled and gently let go to check the wind. He confirms his yardage to the pin and factors in the uphill approach to the elevated green. With all the elements analyzed, Darren confidently selects his club—a 9-iron—and takes his swing. The ball lands pin high, takes a couple of hops and then zips back toward the hole, leaving him with a short birdie putt for one of his best rounds ever. As he taps it in, Darren can’t help but smile with a unique feeling that only his fellow avid golfers would understand. It’s part jubilation, part relief.
The Competitive Spirit
Darren still remembers the set of junior clubs that his grandparents gave him as a gift when he was just eight years old. It didn’t take long before he developed a strong passion for the game. Growing up, Darren also excelled at baseball, but ultimately gravitated more toward golf as an individual pursuit that he could practice endlessly in order to refine his skills. He played golf at UC Irvine before transferring to UCLA, where he also competed on the golf team and earned his bachelor’s degree.
Giving His All
Darren’s drive to be his best led him to play in many professional and amateur tournaments. He held his own against some of the best players in the world before deciding to use his knowledge and skills to help other budding golfers hone their games as a teaching professional based out of Tierra Rejada Golf Club in Moorpark. Through this career, Darren displayed his patience, attention to detail and ability to help people achieve their goals. He still plays competitively from time to time, but also finds just as much enjoyment in playing a casual round with friends and clients. He knows there’s no better way to get to know someone than to play 18 holes with them.
All the while, Darren also had his sights on the family business of real estate. His parents had formed one of the leading Ventura County teams—The Humphrey Team—and he saw an opportunity to help others on a much bigger scale. “Leaving golf behind on a professional level was not an easy decision, but once I sold my first home, I was hooked!” Darren says. “It’s such a rewarding experience to be an integral part of something so important in someone’s life.”
